Open at renewed Jewish Museum Curaçao

On May 18, the Jewish Museum Curaçao will open the exhibition "Longing for Freedom – The World of Anne Frank" in its newly renovated space. Alongside it, the museum will also present an exhibition about George Maduro, the Curaçao-born resistance hero who died in the Dachau concentration camp in 1945.

The museum is part of the historic Mikvé Israël-Emanuel Synagogue, recognized as the oldest functioning synagogue in the Western Hemisphere. Focus on Freedom, Identity, and Responsibility

The exhibitions aim to engage visitors — particularly young people — in reflection on themes such as freedom, identity, and personal responsibility, values that the museum notes are still under pressure in today's world.

As part of an educational outreach initiative, the exhibitions will be free of charge for school classes. The program encourages students to explore the historical realities of the Holocaust and World War II through the personal stories of Anne Frank and George Maduro, fostering critical thinking about the past and its relevance today.

The dual exhibition combines global history and local heritage, offering a unique opportunity to connect Curaçao’s own narrative with one of the most powerful and universal stories of resilience and human rights.
